A new way to study with the Scottish University of the Year
Web Design | Web Development

The Brief
Aberdeen University set out ambitious plans to launch an on-demand learning solution for people looking to study towards degrees and other qualifications online. TAC collaborated with IT consultants, Data Architects, to create a platform that allows users to build their own personalised learning programme and study from anywhere.
TAC designed and built the front-end user experience of the platform, worked on integrating this with the back-end system and provided consultancy to the University on usability and accessibility.

User journey
With the University’s extensive range of degrees, programmes and short courses available on the platform, a refined and simple user experience was critical to the success of the project. We worked together with the University to understand the needs of its staff and prospective students, and developed these into functional wireframes.

Accessibility and usability
The University of Aberdeen’s online offering is designed to be accessible to blind, partially sighted and disabled users, so the all features of the on-demand platform had to comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
It was also critical that the platform functioned seamlessly on any device and that the end-to-end process of applying and paying for courses was possible on mobile devices.

Application process
One of the most important parts of the platform is the application process. TAC designed accessible forms with re-usable components, which are used to break the process down into logical steps. User feedback, instant validation and easily-accessible help, make registration simple and intuitive.
