A new website for an organisation empowering girls and women in the gaming industry

The project
Created in 2009, Women in Games is a not for profit organisation of global activists, all of whom share a common goal of establishing gender equality in the games industry. The group has since gone on to build a powerful and diverse community across multiple social channels.
Women in Games approached TAC to design and build a new website for the organisation. The brief was to create a new online platform that would enable WiG to expand upon their ever-growing community.

Our approach
Before settling on a design direction for the new website, we carried out an extensive research phase to help identify key objectives and user journeys. Alongside the Women in Games team, we worked to create a seamless user experience that encourages future ambassadors to join their global programme.
To support the organisation and their mission, we built the website on a customised WordPress content management system. This modular platform allows content publishers to create unique page layouts by selecting from a set of content types.

Celebrating creativity
An integral part of the brief was to create an area where individual ambassadors of Women in Games could be championed for their efforts in raising awareness of the organisation’s mission: to achieve full parity of opportunity and equity of treatment for all female identifying persons working, or wanting to work, in the games industry and esports.
We designed and built a directory that allows content publishers to easily create ambassador profiles, with occupation details and links through to related social platforms.

Multi site
Since launching the Women in Games website, we have worked with the organisation to design and build their Global Festival website.
Both websites are part of a WordPress multi-site network, meaning any number of sites can be powered by a single content management system. This approach results in a secure, robust environment that is capable of supporting future expansion.
